Barcelona, Spain

Finally! After a couple years of a Covid hiatus, we made it back across the ocean over to Europe. We had quite a bit of time to decide where we wanted to go and landed on Spain! The extra time allowed us to brush up on our Spanish so we enjoyed learning and re-learning (for me) Spanish on the Duolingo app. One thing we soon realized, however, was that in the cities we visited, they speak mainly Catalan. It’s similar but it has its differences.. Oh well, we learned Spanish anyway!

First up – Barcelona!

We were in complete awe with our visit to the Sagrada Familia. Seriously, it was the highlight of the trip and if its your first time to Barcelona its an absolute must! It’s truly an architectural wonder from the visions of Antoni Gaudi who has put quite the stamp on Barcelona with his designs.

That said, we also visited a few other Gaudi designs – La Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, and Park Guell. All offering glimpses into his unique building style that only he could pull off.

A couple other stops we made on our trip in Barcelona was to the renowned, Camp Nou, the home of Barcelona FC. My futbol allegiance lies with Chelsea, but it was still awesome seeing this insanely massive stadium. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like with 100,000 Barcelonians cheering on their team. Quite intimidating for opposing teams.

Lastly, we visited Poble Espanyol. It’s a little musuem town designed to showcase classic architecture and townscapes that could be seen throughout Spain. Fun little town to walk through and quite the escape from the bustling city streets of Barcelona.
